This New Winter

This new winter

Moves slow and warm

Even on the cold days

Snow sweats in my palm

When I head home,

I walk there

cold sweat with a cigarette,

smoke in my hair

Hours in a day left open

They could go by in many ways

I’ve done all of them

This new winter is settling in

breaking my heart

forgetting the good things

Yesterday

It rained

hand to our heads

A touch to calm

I sing this song as a letter

To my loved ones far away

Happy, but bitter too

this new

simple soup

I’ve been so worried about you

And who am I turning into

This new winter

Wearing in Month to month

bathtubs, laundry and lightbulb moths

This new winter moves

Slow and warm

Even on the cold days

Snow sweats in my palm

You either cope or melt

Cope or melt

Cope or melt

Anger is a pair of pants

But happiness is balance

Overwhelmed in gloss
